Girl, Wash your Face
By Rachel Hollis
It came out earlier this year and just 5 weeks ago 30 of my Facebook friends recommended it on Facebook within a 48 hour period! I counted!
My curiosity grew with each post and I looked it up. Then about 2 or 3 weeks ago a few friends got back on saying they didn't really want to recommend it anymore. They said things like "it started out great."
Well I got a hold of a copy and now I can offer my thoughts on the subject.
Girl, Wash Your Face is a book clearly meant for a female audience. "STOP BELIEVING THE LIES ABOUT WHO YOU ARE SO YOU CAN BECOME WHO YOU WERE MEANT TO BE"
Each chapter is based on a lie she's told herself and to be honest a few of them are pretty universal. She speaks to the teen in us all and the mom in many of us. She's honest about her life... And while she may not have meant it several have felt a bit of a self absorbed vibe. Myself included. To me in can be overlooked. She's trying to be helpful. I think sometimes when we try and help we sound a bit like we've got everything figured out. Sometimes it helps more of we are approached with a "in the midst of it" more than a "been there done that bought the t-shirt" approach.
That being said and without giving too much away there were a few chapters where I felt I had written them. They were that spot on. I related to them that closely that it felt like me. She hit me between the eyes a couple of times too!
I would definitely recommend this book to anyone searching for someone to just get it. Because Rachel Hollis DOES get it. Need someone to understand? She does. The advice she gives is good and constructive.
The chapters are short enough you could read 2 a day and be done in 10 days. If you are a busy woman this is the right book for you.
My advice when reading it?
Keep your mind open.
Expect to learn some great lessons.
Expect to be a little bored because you may or may not get something from every chapter.
Also a warning: her closing left me a little annoyed only because it had a hint of a "just do it" mentality. Life is hard. When you are trying to reprogram parts of your mindset the just do it mentality is something that probably won't come easy. So remember life is a process and to keep working through and you will see progress.
If you want to discuss anymore about it send me a message
